P*JET * IMAGES writer Eric Tilden has just partnered with the instructional site known as eHow, to branch out into teaching through the blogosphere. This partnership will allow for writing that is outside the specific scope of P*JET * IMAGES into the world of instruction. But before we go into the hopes and expectations, let me first talk about eHow.com itself.
Upon examining eHow’s About eHow page, the following pitch comes to light. First, eHow has a database of over 500,000 articles, which have clear, step-by-step instructions in both article and video form to do just about everything. They state that they have over 26 million visitors per month and about 300,000 articles are posted per month. And they invite the public to become part of their ever-growing community of people sharing knowledge.
The site is organized by category of the topic. They have how-to’s in Arts and Entertainment, Fashion, Internet, Parenting, Relationships, and even Weddings. Upon clicking on one of their 24 main categories, you are taken to a page with the option of selecting from several sub-categories, content types, specific tags, author type (member or eHow professional), skill level needed to complete the steps, and even by rating. I have found this very useful in paring down the tens of thousands of results to get to a few hundred of what I am looking for.
When one joins, they get access to a profile page, and several other useful tabs. You get an inbox tab, to communicate with other members, a friends tab, so that other members can hook up with you, an articles tab, which lists all of your articles that you have published with eHow, and a comments tab, which allows you to monitor the comments that are made about your articles.
I have submitted, as of today, June 4, 2009, three articles to eHow.
