UNITED FRONT and back

My step mother, Pat, gave me a kitty calendar. You know the ones with all the really interestingly posed kitties. I couldn’t wait to draw one of these cute cats. I chose one that was lying on its side. The eyes were big and very intense. I guess some might even say they were hypnotic. This one I would draw in pencil and call ‘Look into my eyes.’ It was only of the head and shoulders. It had one front paw holding itself in place.

Shortly after that I ran across a beagle that was resting his head on its front paws, looking right into the camera. I drew this one with oil pastel and gave the original to Pat.

At this time, I was seeing a pattern—PAWS! I would draw a series of animals; each having at least one paw in the picture. They would be called the paw series. I would use prints of the pictures for cards. Perhaps, even put a cute saying with them.

Well, that was over two years ago. Since then I have drawn four more pictures of animals with this in mind. They all didn’t have a paw in them, but each owned a paw. Their names are Calisto, Poochies, Prasilla, and Bernie. Bernie was my aunt’s late pet, so I drew him as a memento for her.

I do plan on drawing two more for the collection. But today, there are only six cards. They are blank inside and each has an envelope. These will be the introductory set of the PAWS Series Cards.
